Heute bin ich mit der nächsten Modalpartikel soweit - "doch". Today the next flavoring particle "doch". Let's have a look! 

1. Used to remind about something already known and indirectly prompt somebody to agree.

Sie ist doch kein Kind mehr!

2. Used in questions to express doubt or worry.

Das schaffst du doch hoffentlich?

3. Used in questions to express the hope of agreement.

Ihr kommt doch heute Abend? Du betrügst mich doch nicht?

4. Used in questions when the speaker can not remember known information.

Wie heißt er doch gleich? Wie war das doch?

5. Used to intensify exclamations. And in exclamations to show surprising, rage and disappointment.

Schrei doch nicht so laut! Hör doch endlich auf!

Wie schön es hier doch ist! Was man doch alles so hört!

Das ist doch zu blöd!

6. Used to express the wish which can not come true by the moment.

Wenn es doch schon vorbei wäre! Hätte ich doch das nie getan!

Hallo! Heute geht es soweit mit der Partikel "denn"! Today I am going to write about the next german flavoring particle "denn". Let's go!

     1. a.       used in questions to show the sympathy, a real interest, impatience, doubt etc. or to make a question more natural and friendly. 

                   was ist denn mit ihm?

                   was soll das denn?

                   wer war denn das?

                   hast du denn so viel Geld?

          was ist denn schon wieder los?

          wie heißt du denn?

          was macht ihr denn da?

b.      used  to strengthen emotions, to make a conclusion

            ihr war es denn doch zu anstrengend

         das schien ihm denn auch genug

2. a.      used in rhetorical questions

                   bist du denn taub?

                   kannst du denn nicht hören?

b.       used to intensify exclamations

         wohlan denn!
   Ist denn das die Möglichkeit!

3.     used instead of  "dazu"and "sonst"

                »Liegt das Buch auf dem Tisch?« – »Nein.« – »Wo denn?«

           »Hast du das Geld von ihr?« – »Nein.« – »Von wem denn?«

4. used in an expression "es sei denn" - only if (in the meaning that something will happen only under some conditions)

         Ich gehe nicht hin, es sei denn, du willst es unbedingt!

Today let's have a look at the particle "auch"! 

1. used to show that the sentence refers to everybody, including the named ones

Auch der klügste Schüler macht mal einen Fehler!

Auch der schönste Tag geht einmal zu Ende!

2.  used to express the feelings - disappointment, surprising etc. according to the situation

du bist aber auch stur

der ist auch überall dabei

auch das noch

warum kommst du auch so spät

3.      used to make the sentence said before more strong emotionally or to give more sense to it 

       sie sah krank aus, und sie war es auch

        er wartete auf einen Brief, der dann auch am Vormittag eintraf

      ich gehe jetzt, es ist auch schon spät

4.      used in the questions to express doubt 

       darf er das auch tun?

       hast du dir das auch überlegt?

5. a.       used in generalizations

       wer auch immer … (jeder, der)

        was auch [immer] geschieht … (alles, was geschieht)

      wo er auch (überall, wo er) hinkommt, wird er jubelnd begrüßt

      wie dem auch sei … (ob es falsch oder richtig ist)

5. b.      used in concessive sentences with »wenn«, »so« oder »wie« 

er hat Zeit, wenn er auch (obwohl er) das Gegenteil behauptet

es meldete sich niemand, sooft ich auch anrief

(umgangssprachlich) wenn auch! (das macht doch nichts!)

Hallo alle zusammen! Today I would like to start the big topic "Modalpartikel".

These are small words like "also", "aber", "doch" etc. They usually make troubles by translations, but they help to make our conversations colorful :-)

Let's get started with "aber".

ABER

   1.  used to intensify the sentence, to give more color to it.

·         aber ja!

·         aber gern!

·         alles, aber auch alles würde er tun!

·         Kommst du mit? – Aber ja! Aber natürlich! Aber sicher!

   2.  Used to show that something is unusual or not really so as expected.

·         du spielst aber gut!

·         die sind aber dick!

·         aber, aber! (nicht doch!, was soll das?)

·         aber ich bitte dich!

·         Das hast du aber fein gemacht! – You’ve done it really well!

·         Hast du aber viele Kleider!

   3.  Used in requests to show the impatience.

Jetzt sei aber endlich still!

   4.  Used to show the irritation.

Wie kann man aber auch nur so dumm sein!
