Tools um Ihre Sprache zu verbessern /Tools to improve your language

Today I would like to present you two interesting tools, based on web 2.0 technology, that allow language learners to interact with each other in an online discussion, while practicing good speaking and writing skills. Our practice in German is strengthened by the interaction with peers and teachers through discussions centered on topics of interest.

VoiceThread is great for getting students using and developing their speaking skills in a fun and creative way. VoiceThread allows participants to respond in oral or written form, this technology supports a multiple intelligence approach to language learning. With VoiceThread, group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world. All with no software to install.

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leavec omments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too. Here is a detailed explaination on how it works, how to set up an account, how to add images and recordings.

Voxopop is a web based audio tool that enables users to record their speaking for others to listen and respond to. It allows teachers and students to build up threaded audio-discussions online similar to those on a text based bulletin board. According to Dean Worth (the website creator) Voxopop "aim(s) to bring people together in an environment of constructive communication".

In Voxopop you can record audio messages to express your ideas or ask questions and then people can record their own messages to respond to you. Voxopop literally gives you a voice in the world of online learning.

Our intention is to support you in expressing yourself in German. We can learn one from another, we can work together in improving our vocabulary, Nadja will be there to correct us when we are wrong, so we can also learn from mistakes. Here is her short presentation of how these tools work:

We would like you to join these platforms and explore their benefits. You will find below the links for our two themes: Freizeit&Hobby and Orientierung in der Stadt.
Regarding our last theme "Orientierung in der Stadt" it would be wonderful if you could upload a picture from your city and a map, so that everybody will be able to follow your description visually (only in Voicethread). So, how do you get from the railway station to your home?

This is our Homework for our next meeting online:

Was ist ein Hobby? (Plural: Hobbys)

A hobby is a favorite activity, an action that one does not out of necessity, but willingly and out of interest, fascination, or even passion. The activity brings pleasure, fun or delight.

Freizeit ist die Zeit, die einem Menschen zur freien Verfügung steht; also Zeit, die nicht auf Tätigkeiten wie Erwerbsarbeit, Studium oder Hausarbeit verwendet wird. Leisure is the time that a man is free, so time is not spent on activities such as payed work, study or homework.

Often driven activities of the Germans are, according to an Allensbach survey  gardening, shopping and Crosswords.
