Let´s see the following examples:

Er heißt nicht Markus. (His name is not Markus)

Maria ist nicht jung. (Maria is not jung)

- Warum isst du die Suppe nicht? (Why aren´t you eating the soup?)

- Ich habe keinen Hunger. (I am not hungry)

Ich kann nicht schlafen. Ich habe keine Ruhe. (I can´t sleep. I am not calm)

Habt ihr keine Zeit für mich? (Don´t you have time for me?)

Mach dir keine Sorgen! (Don´t worry)

Nein, er braucht keinen Arzt. So krank ist er noch nicht. 

(No, he needs no doctor. He is not that ill yet.)

It´s obvious that we use NEIN to say no.

So what about nicht and kein? KEIN is an adjective placed before the noun in order to underline it´s absence and it will be declined as learned by adjectices. We could translate it as "none".

 
And NICHT? It is simply used to negate a sentence.
